Introduction to Special Education: UnderstandingExceptional Learners from Infancy to Adulthoodexplores the diverse world of exceptionallearners, from infancy to adulthood. This courseaddresses a wide range of abilities and needs,focusing on physical, cognitive, andsocio-emotional development. Students will explorethe evolving landscape of special education,including its historical context, legal frameworksprotecting individuals with special needs, and theethical foundations of the field. The coursecovers various exceptionalities and examinesassessment practices, intervention strategies, andinclusive education principles. Students will gaina theoretical understanding of supporting learnerswith exceptional needs at different life stages.Key topics include early intervention, educationaloptions, community living, collaborativeinstructional delivery, cultural responsiveness,and transition planning.

EDU 182, PSY 204, or PSY 207.
