This course describes and analyzes the impact that a culturally diverse workforce has on businesses, industry and the global/international environment from multiple perspectives, including social justice. Students will discuss and demonstrate awareness and understanding of how culture, values, and social behavior influence managing diverse groups in organizations. The influence of globalization, technology, information sharing, communication methods, learning styles, cultural perspectives, and approaches to leadership provide insights into the importance of understanding diversity. Students will evaluate why diversity is vitally important for organizations and how it helps with recruiting, retaining and effectively utilizing a diverse workforce. Legislation, litigation and research topics will be covered providing solid factual support basis for embracing diversity. Students will reflect on their place in the world and their responsibilities to others, appreciating the richness of human diversity, creativity, and cultural difference, and by exploring ethical issues and weighing alternative perspectives. This course was previously BME-213164 Diversity in the Workplace. Prerequisites: Principles of Management MGMT 1005, or equivalent knowledge or experience acquired through workplace or other organizations.
