This course introduces students to the concepts, methods, and practical tools used in the analysis of public policy. The goal of this course is to provide students with a strong conceptual foundation of the rationales for and the limitations to public policy. It offers practical advice about how to do policy analysis and equips students with analytical techniques needed to evaluate policy problems, assess alternatives, and make evidence-informed policy recommendations. Emphasis is placed on the roles of efficiency, equity, and feasibility in policy-making, as well as the ethical responsibilities of policy analysts. Students will apply conceptual foundations to real-world issues through case studies, applied exercises, and written policy memos.
