Federal law and state legislations require school districts to provide appropriate assistive technology to students with disabilities when it supports their acquisition of a free and appropriate public education (FAPE). Assistive technology can have a great impact on learning and the quality of life of those individuals with disabilities. The focus in this course is on providing information about the foundations of assistive technology devices and services, laws and regulations, building familiarity with the range of assistive, alternative, and augmentative technology available, as well as build some fluency with its use to assist with learners with special needs access the curriculum across all grades. Offered annually.
