This course presents an overview of U.S. constitutional law. Topics include the nature and scope of due process law, the Bill of Rights, judicial review, separation of powers, the nature of executive and congressional power, federalism and the Interstate Commerce Clause, the right to privacy and equal protection of law. Issues to be considered will include the right to an abortion, freedom of religion, freedom of the press, affirmative action, gay marriage and the power of the government to restrict individuals' private property rights. Prerequisite: GOVT 141 - American Government, or permission of the instructor.
