This course emphasizes the use of the computer as a tool in digital image making. Hands-on lectures will introduce students to the tools and methods employed in digital imaging using industry standard software as well as current artistic trends in creating digital images. Emphasis will be placed on the formal aspects of composition and structure, image manipulation, retouching and compositing through raster-based graphics programs. In addition, students will be introduced to the process of inputting and outputting digital images for print production and web graphics. It is expected that students will spend additional time outside of class completing course assignments. Students will also be required to purchase quality inkjet paper and other supplies (such as flash drives and external hard drives) as directed by the instructor. A lab fee will be required.
