Provides a historical overview of the evolution of the international capitalist system. Several competing explanations for the unequal division of wealth and poverty in the global economy are evaluated. We also explore contemporary issues such as the debt crisis, economic development strategies, the role of transnational corporations, and environmental degradation, with an emphasis on specific country examples. This course falls under the sub-fields of Comparative Politics and International Relations. A minimum of Sophomore standing required.
