This course is the third in a series of courses designed to explore cultural diversity in educational settings. The cultural diversity series is intended to help students develop the multicultural awareness, knowledge and skills needed to work effectively with a diverse student body. The series also challenges students to understand themselves, other people and institutional structures in increasingly complex and dynamic ways. Finally, the series is also intended to identify models and strategies to both assess and create multicultural change on campus. This third course is specifically designed for students who have already taken ELP 513 (and, ideally other related courses). The purpose of ELP 693 is to increase their multicultural competence as emerging professionals, utilizing the Dynamic Model of Student Affairs Competence to both conceptualize and assess their multicultural awareness, knowledge and skills. Concurrently, this course will explore models for implementing successful diversity management initiatives. Course enrollment limited to students in the Student Affairs Administration program and HED doctoral students.
