From the pressure of taking an exam to the threat of global terrorism, from irritation over commuting to grief over a loved one's death, stress is an inescapable part of life. And stressful experiences, through their psychological and physiological effects, can affect human health and well-being. The influence of stress can be seen in health problems including depression, anxiety disorders, cardiovascular disease, infectious diseases, and cancer...to say nothing of the reduced quality of life we all feel when we're under stress. In this course, we will come to understand more about the nature of stress and its effects by exploring classic and cutting-edge theory and research.
