This is the first course in a series of three courses that prepare students for generalist professional practice. Students are introduced to the purposes, historical roots, structure, fields of practice, values, and ethics of professional social work. Generalist professional practice is defined, and a systems approach to person(s)-in-environment practice with client systems of various sizes and diverse types is presented. Planned change processes in micro, mezzo, and macro level practice are introduced. Communication skills and self-reflection are included.
Prerequisites:
junior social work major, SOC101, PSY101, BIO100 or BIO103, MAT161, 2.5 cumulative GPA.
