Catalog Course Description

Students study a wide range of computer hardware and system software concepts, covering computer components, operating systems, maintenance, networking, security, mobile devices, and more. Students utilize the LabSim PC Pro training program, which offers comprehensive and up-to-date practical experience in computer hardware, software, and troubleshooting skills. This course prepares students for the industry-standard CompTIA A+ certification exam. Pre-requisite: MAT 1005, Intermediate Algebra, or Permission of Instructor.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Define computer hardware and peripherals.
2. List basic electricity and power supplies terms.
3. Define the best computer configuration and operating systems initial setup.
4. List preventive maintenance and safety precautions.
5. Select mass storage solutions, redundancy, and fault tolerance .
6. Name components and devices of mobile technology.
7. Match network technologies to a situation.
8. List operating systems tools .
9. Define information security.
