Catalog Course Description
This is a practical information guidelines course for students seeking cross-cultural knowledge and sensitivity. The course content stresses that those who are charged with the responsibility of public protection and service will demonstrate greater professionalism through cultural awareness, both within the multicultural workforce and in the community in which they serve.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Discuss the changing criminal justice agencies.
2. Identify and discuss multicultural representation in criminal justice in regards to recruitment, training and retention.
3. Explain cross-cultural communication for criminal justice agents.
4. Describe law enforcement contact with Asian/Pacific Islander Americans.
5. Describe law enforcement contact with African Americans.
6. Describe law enforcement contact with Latino/Hispanic Americans.
7. Describe law enforcement contact with Arab Americans and other Middle Eastern groups.
8. Discuss Hate/Bias crimes, victims, investigation and Prosecutions.
9. Describe the history of racial profiling and its impact on the community in relation to law enforcement and security.
10. Discuss the need for peace officer and cultural sensitivity.
