Catalog Course Description
This course provides students with exposure to Spanish culture through the study of language, utilizing popular media and a culture-oriented text. The course covers language structure essential for basic communication in Spanish.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon completing this course students will have basic skills in
1. SPEAKING
a. Pronunciation of the sounds of Spanish with sufficient accuracy so as to be understood by a speaker of the language.
b. Expression of ideas with the covered vocabulary and accurate grammatical structures.
2. LISTENING
a. Perception of the sounds of Spanish and their distinction from one another.
b. Comprehension of ideas within the vocabulary and grammatical structures covered in the text.
3. READING
a. Understanding of complex prose on non-technical topics.
b. Demonstrating comprehension of reading material by answering content questions,
4. WRITING
a. Participating in classroom discussions.
b. Preparing a paragraph in Spanish on topics covered by the text and in class.
5. CULTURE
a. Acquiring basic knowledge of aspects of culture in the Spanish-speaking world, including but not limited to climate and geography, music, family and school life, rural and urban life and behavioral patterns.
