Catalog Course Description
In this course, students learn the basic principles of photovoltaic and wind generated power, with an emphasis on how to maintain and manage these technologies, as well as the buildings with which they are associated. The key components and principles, site issues, and economic considerations of solar and wind systems are covered.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Define and discuss the principles of wind energy and photovoltaic (PV) systems.
2. Identify and discuss site issues regarding wind turbines and PV equipment.
3. Understand the key components of a wind energy and PV systems.
4. Design a basic PV system and accurately estimate electrical production for a known address.
5. Calculate life-cycle costs and payback periods for energy systems.
