Catalog Course Description

Students examine the chronology of American history from colonial times through the 1980s with an emphasis on women’s perspectives and diverse women’s experiences. Students also explore general experiences of women in America including their civic engagement, fight for equal rights, political, social, and familial relationships.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Describe key events and periods in US history from the colonial timethrough the early 21st century.
2. Compare and contrast American women’s diverse experiences based onrace, class, and other factors.
3. Explain the rise of women’s reform activities from the antebellum erathrough modern America. Reforms include women’s involvement in theabolitionist, suffrage, temperance, the 20th c. civil and women’s rightsmovements as well as the Me-Too movement in the 21st c.
4. Demonstrate the ability to locate, evaluate and apply research information for use in a historical research project.
