Catalog Course Description
This course prepares students to safely perform the preparation and administration of medications in complex and diverse clinical situations using dimensional analysis. Students learn abbreviations and terms used for drug preparation and administration of oral, parenteral and intravenous medications. Students also learn to calculate medication dosages based on weight.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Perform basic arithmetic skills and dimensional analysis. 2. Use approved abbreviations. 3. Demonstrate understanding of safe medication administration. 4. Demonstrate understanding of how to calculate and infuse intravenous fluids and medications. 5. Demonstrate ability to calculate dosage based on weight of children and adults. 6. Describe general considerations when administering medications across the lifespan.
