A critical study of the major religions of the East: Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism with additional discussion of Jainism and Shinto. Emphasis is on the philosophical issues that arise from the worldview of each religion, including their understanding of reality, human purpose, and how we should live. Students study such areas as the ultimate source and nature of God, the universe, the nature of humanity and our place in the cosmos, and the relationship between religion and world culture.
