This course is an introduction to the creative process of writing poetry. Students will study a variety of work from published poets, as well as the movements associated with them. They will study the elements of closed and open form in reference to scansion, rhyme, scheme, meter, tone, and poetic voice. Students will find their own poetic voices as they create, and each will develop a poetic statement to accompany the semester-end portfolio of work. Pre-req: ENG 101, English Composition I.
