This course provides an overview of the materials used in manufacturing that are of significant economic, technical and industrial relevance. A special emphasis will be given to polymeric materials currently used in electronics manufacturing as well as those materials emerging for use in additive manufacturing and 3D printing. Selected materials will be classified by composition, properties, manufacturing methods, applications, economics and related supply chains. Prerequisites: undergraduate engineering or science background that includes the equivalent of freshman chemistry and physics or permission of the instructor. Offered in the Fall Semester. 3 credits.
