Covers the study and practice of speech communication, emphasizing the development of effective public speaking abilities. Designed to develop students' capacity for oral communication, this course emphasizes research, organization, and presentation of speeches which inform, persuade, and entertain. Delivery, style, and audience analysis are also stressed. Students will interact in small groups to practice their public speaking skills and apply theories and techniques of persuasion. Students prepare several speeches, engage in extemporaneous speaking exercises, and critique other performances.
