The emergence of nursing science and its relationship to quality patient outcome is explored within the context of evidence-based practice. Types of research and models for evidence are examined with a focus on appraisal of research designs and methodology and the interpretation of findings with relevance to practice scholarship. Integrative reviews, systematic reviews, scoping reviews, and meta-analysis are introduced with emphasis on evaluating the quality of evidence for advanced nursing and professional role formation.
