Theory, research, and pathophysiology are applied to the evaluation and management of women who experience a variety of acute and chronic health problems throughout their lifespan. Emphasis is on health promotion and disease prevention activities in primary care settings. Basic areas explored are gynecological examinations, disease screenings, management of normal pregnancy, and care of the pregnant woman during prenatal and postpartum visits. Critical reflection will assist the student in exploring the advanced roles of case manager, educator, and consultant to enhance the health and well-being of women and their families from a variety of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
