Building on the foundations of genetics, explore the phenomena that cannot be explained using Mendelian genetics model. We investigate the nexus of evolution and molecular biology and debate the proposed unifying model(s). The purpose of this course is to introduce and discuss in detail the packaging of eukaryotic nuclear DNA. Through a series of review papers and research studies, this course dives in deeper details of chromatin modulation and mechanisms of regulations that affect the workings of a cell. The course further explores the nature and roles of these dynamic and diverse chemical and physical variations on epigenome and how they affect the working of a cell. The course dissects central dogma of biology under the light of epigenetics and discusses new concepts that help us understand complexity of gene expression at every molecular level. We explore connections between epigenome, heredity of epigenome, gene regulation, cellular programming, reprogramming, cancer, and other genetic diseases. **Meets biology program elective requirement.
