This course offers a comprehensive study of the Latinx science fiction genre from different media traditions and examines its intersections with identity, culture, and contemporary social movements. Throughout the semester, we will explore works that envision possible futures, delve into the complexities of diaspora, and the depict the experiences of immigration, among other themes. Students will examine the ways in which Latinx authors and creators challenge established norms by reimagining the future. The works for this class includes various sub-genres and topics such as Chicano and indigenous Futurisms, Utopias, Dystopias, encounters with the unknown and Latinx superheroes.
