This course explores the waves of revolts and revolutions led by women in the 20th Century and beyond. The course will examine how women have always been active agents in dismantling oppressive systems and creating a pathway toward a free society. They are active in revolts, insurgencies, and revolutions. This course uncovers the dual nature of their involvement. Although women are decisive forces driving transformative change, their leadership has been obscured, erased, or downplayed in historical narratives. The course examines how women have confronted patriarchy both within and outside the realm of their political struggle. By exploring recent history, this course shows the gender dynamics that have intricately shaped women’s political participation. Students will grasp the impact of the unsung heroines.
