The last several years have seen an increase in legislation in the US limiting the rights of trans and queer people – especially access to healthcare. Alongside this, recent supreme court decisions and local legislation have curtailed access to reproductive care for women and girls. This course will examine these two connected situations within a historical and social reproductive framework. We will look at texts examining the relationship between gender identity and reproduction, as well as the relationship between reproduction and gendered labor. Through these readings we will discuss potential motives behind such attacks on reproductive freedom and gender affirming care, and how communities are resisting them.
