With a focus on the production of listening, this course asks what kind of knowledge can be produced through storytelling using podcasts. We will work towards telling our own stories through podcasts, with the understanding that the stories we tell create narratives about ourselves and/in the world, but also open up spheres of listening. In the process of learning the basic techniques of podcasting, students will not only explore narrative conventions like voices and perspectives, but also be encouraged to innovate within and beyond these conventions. No prior experience or proficiency with podcasting is required. Small weekly assignments will help build a final project where students will have a chance to produce their own podcast. We will examine how the form of the podcast can be employed as a tool to combat the racial and gendered sonic invisibilizing of stories occurring on a global scale.
