The meaning of refugee has changed over time and the invention of modern refugee after the First World War complicated refugees’ existence in the world. Refugees today constitute a major concern for many states around the world and not only the reasons made them displace but their treatment in the host countries attract scholarly and popular attention. This fully online course cover the changes in the concept of refugee in its historical context; recent realities of refugeedom with specific focus on Syria, Venezuela, Afghanistan, Palestine, South Sudan and Myanmar, possible ways to improve the situation of refugees and preventative measures. Students will be assessed through weekly participation in online discussion forum via Brightspace over the assigned course readings and videos together with lecture videos, and writing assignments.
