This course is about families as a fundamental social unit, encompassing a majority of its members, while also serving as a significant arena for both the maintenance and transformation of social structures. In this course, we will explore multiple aspects and trajectories of families, with a primary emphasis on American society. Starting with family trends over the past few decades, we investigate various dimensions of relationship formation, such as cohabitation, marriage, parenting, and how class, race, gender, and other social factors shape the diversity of family forms.
