Nursing 581K Mental Health and Aging in the 21st Century 3 credits Nursing 581K Mental Health and Aging in the 21st Century: This course will give a broad overview of mental health and aging in the United States. The course will discuss the current demographic of the older population and their current mental health needs. The biological, psychosocial and social theories of aging and mental health will be examined. Common psychiatric disorders in the older population will be presented. The challenges to meeting the needs of the aging population will be explored including access to care, cost and legality.
