It is highly important that nonprofit professionals learn about revenue development and marketing. Without steady sources of income and brand awareness a nonprofit will not be able to effectively enact its mission and programming. This course will provide a broad overview of nonprofit fundraising and marketing including an introduction to the theories and practices of charitable fundraising such as fundraising traditions in the U.S. and amongst various populations, philosophies of giving and asking, theories of donor motivation, and the organizational, legal, and ethical contexts of charitable fundraising. It reviews practical elements of fundraising plan development, as well as traditional and digital marketing methods to spread brand awareness and encourage engagement with and donations to their organization. Students are introduced to and gain practice using basic fundraising tools, including annual funds, special events, major gifts, planned giving, and capital campaigns.
