Take your class online with SUNY
You will learn the same curriculum as our on-campus students
In this course, we will study the most profound questions concerning the meaning and the purpose of life. Some of the questions that we will engage with are: What is the nature of reality? How do I know this reality? Is knowledge even possible? What constitutes a good life? What does it mean to be morally responsible? What is existence, and what does it mean to be free? We hope to survey these questions by navigating the sub-fields of philosophy such as metaphysics, epistemology and ethics and reading key figures such as Plato, Descartes, Kant, Mill, Nietzsche, Heidegger and others. Apart from familiarizing the students with the subject matter of philosophy, the course will also help develop critical thinking skills and enhance reading and writing skills.
