You will learn the same curriculum as our on-campus students
What kind of equality is relevant for a just political structure and what would it entail? Is it even a goal? There are many candidate ways to be equal: equality of freedoms, equal opportunity, equal material resources, equality of the good etc. In this class, we will investigate and discuss different theories about what kind of equality is required for a just political system. Then, in light of these theories, we will address how to apply these theories to important issues related to equality: voting systems, systemic discrimination, tolerance, economic power, and more. This class will give students the opportunity to discuss and hone their ideas of equality and emerge with a clearer idea of what they want out of our own political system in the future.
