An introduction to nutritional science including a survey of essential nutrients needed for healthy functioning of the body with emphasis on their sources, function, and utilization. Incorporates the study of nutritive value of foods and an evaluation of personal dietary intake. Topics include: Nutrition Facts food label, macro and micronutrients, energy balance and weight regulation, reliable sources of nutrition information, food safety, and nutrition through the life cycle. Primarily designed for liberal arts students. Science majors and nursing students should elect NTR 111. Does NOT count as a laboratory science course.
