(Dual listed with HIS 221) A historical presentation of the African experience in the Caribbean nations of Cuba, Bahamas, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and the nations of the Lesser Antilles, Trinidad and Tobago. Emphasis centers on the impact and effects of African slavery in the Caribbean, African contributions to the region, its cultural roots in Caribbean society, and the contemporary problems in the Caribbean today.
