This course covers African and African Americans until the end of the Civil War. The African Continent to 1600, the Atlantic Slave Trade in North America and the British North American settlements. 18th century topics include the struggle for independence and The New Nation. In addition, 19th century topics include Antebellum America, slavery, opposition to slavery, the election of 1860, Civil War, Emancipate Proclamation and the end of the War in 1865.
