This course will focus on the relationship of language and cognition; language acquisition theories; and the stages of oral and written language development with a particular emphasis on adolescent literacies across the curriculum. The course will help to prepare teachers of adolescents in all content areas to understand language and literacy, how it is acquired and used from early childhood through adolescence, and how to relate this understanding to the adolescent classroom. Includes field experience.
