This course is a chronological survey of American history from early colonization through the end of the Civil War. The course examines economic, political, social and cultural institutions as they evolved during this period. Topics covered include but are not limited to: settlement of North America; interactions with Native Americans; slavery; American Revolution; founding of the Republic; Jacksonian democracy; Manifest Destiny; sectionalism; and the American Civil War.
