This course will give students a comprehensive understanding of the many ways children suffer abuse and neglect. Different types of abuse are examined, including child physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, and homicide. Students will learn how to identify, respond to, and investigate child abuse and neglect allegations. With education, professionals in various fields are well positioned to recognize signs of abuse. Special attention will be given to addressing best practices for workers in fields that are in a unique position to see different signs of child abuse, including professionals who work in veterinary science, health care, law enforcement and the legal system, and social services. Prerequisite: ENGL 100. Restricted to students who are bachelors degree programs. (3:3,0)
