This course examines nutritional physiology and pathophysiology. Topics explored include the effects of nutrients on metabolism at the molecular, cellular, and systemic levels, including special metabolic needs during growth, reproduction, stress, and senescence, as well as, current theories and controversies in the field of nutritional science. Students will critically analyze and evaluate nutritional research, identifying trends and the influence they have on health promotion and disease prevention. As of Fall 2017 students who have completed BIO 226 will not receive credit for BIO 210.
Prerequisites:
BIO 109 and BIO 110 (maybe co-requisite) or AHS 131 and AHS 132 (maybe co-requisite) or permission of the Department
