This course is designed for students interested in chemical dependency counseling. The chemical and physical processes related to abuse and addiction are explored in depth. It also focuses on the medical problems of recovering addicts. The course will survey the anatomy and physiology of the central nervous system, neurotransmitter theory, and explore the mechanism of major drug abuse. Psychotropic drugs are covered as they relate to mentally ill chemical abusers.
