This course explores Japanese animations and their impact on contemporary culture from a variety of perspectives, including aesthetics, psychoanalytic theory, social criticism, and media technology. Looking into storytelling techniques and comparing styles with animations from other cultural traditions (e.g. Disney), we will draw on a variety of shows in different genres, such as Akira and Evangelion.
