You will learn the same curriculum as our on-campus students
Based on a selection of celebrated works of science fiction, this course examines the genre from theoretical, aesthetic and literary perspectives. Reading popular novels and watching spectacular films, we will ask such questions as: What is “the future” and how do we imagine or visualize it? What anxieties do imaginary aliens and invasions from outer space provoke? What do fictional thought-experiments imply about gender and sexuality, about language and communication, or about the relation between (human) nature and technology?
