From early Arcade games and Atari hits like Pac-Man to massively multiplayer online role-playing games such as World of Warcraft, computer games have grown to become the largest grossing entertainment sector in the world, outnumbering film and music industries combined. Meanwhile they have also become increasingly complex, in terms of both their design and their effects on society. This course approaches gaming from a variety of perspectives, including game studies (ludology) and narratology (the logic of stories).
