This course provides an in-depth exploration of the relationship between gender and conflict through cinematic representations, spanning diverse cultures and historical contexts. Specifically, we will critically examine how films depict the experiences and roles of different genders during various forms of conflict, including social upheavals, wars, and revolutions. More importantly, the course emphasizes the multifaceted and complex ways in which gender dynamics both shape and are shaped by conflict, offering insights into how gender influences experiences of power, resistance, and identity in conflict zones. By the end of the course, students will develop a deeper understanding of how cinematic portrayals contribute to and critique our perceptions of gender in times of crisis, ultimately fostering a more nuanced appreciation of the intersection between gender and conflict.
