Designed for the science major, this course is an introduction to the scientific study of weather and climate. Topics include the composition and structure of the atmosphere; measuring and interpreting air temperature, pressure, and humidity; air masses and frontal systems; precipitation and storms; weather forecasting; weather's impact on humans; and global climate change. In the laboratory portion of the class, students will learn to read and create weather maps, to obtain and use real-time weather data from the Internet, and to understand the problems associated with modern weather forecasting.
Corequisites:
ENG 101 and MAT 115 or higher. 3 hrs. lect.; 3 hrs. lab.
