Catalog Course Description
In this course students learn about drugs used in health care and their origin, nature, properties, and effects on living organisms and their classifications, characteristics, purposes, side effects, cautions, and interactions. Students also learn administrative procedures related to the dissemination of drugs. Prerequisite: SCI 1050 Intro to Biology.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Discuss customer safety and drug relations.
2. Identify and understand drug names, references, the sources and bodily effects of drugs.
3. Discuss drug forms and routes of administration.
4. Understand abbreviations and systems of measurement common to medications.
5. Discuss the principles and responsibilities of drug administration and poison control.
6. Identify drug classifications, uses, side effects and drug interactions.
