Catalog Course Description
Students learn about probability, frequency distributions, mean and standard deviation, the binomial distribution, the normal distribution, hypothesis testing, samples from a finite population, regression and correlation, confidence intervals, and chisquare tests. Prerequisite: DMA 0995 Basic Algebra with a C- or better, or at least one year of NYS high school Regents level mathematics with a 75% or higher on at least one Regents math exam.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate the importance of, and how to acquire, a valid random sample.
2. Organize numerical data that has been collected into a frequency table or a graph such as a histogram, box and whisker plot, stem and leaf plot, or circle graph.
3. Calculate mean, median, mode, and standard deviation of a data set.
4. Demonstrate how to draw a scatterplot of bivariate data.
5. Calculate and graph a least squares regression line from a set of bivariate data.
6. Apply simple probability rules to solve problems.
7. Calculate statistical measures such as significance level, t-score, z-score, and confidence limits.
8. Evaluate results of statistical tests to determine whether data are significantly different.
9. Formulate predictions concerning a population from information available from a sample.
10. Draw conclusions from the analysis of data.
