A study of representative works of world literature from Antiquity to the Modern. The course emphasizes the study and consideration of the literacy, cultural and human sig- significance of selected masterpieces of the Western and non- Western literary traditions. An important objective of the course is to promote an understanding of the literary works in their cultural/historical contexts and of the enduring human values which unite the different literary traditions of the world. This course complements EL3560-61, Literatures of Europe Parts I and II, and so focuses largely on literature- of the non-Western world.
