This course aims to provide perspectives both critical and celebratory regarding Asian philosophy, Asian practices, and Asian media representations. Beginning with Edward Saidís classic Orientalism and focusing primarily on East Asian philosophy and religion, students will explore the difference between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation through the lenses of primary sources, movement practices, and contemporary film and literature.
